In September 2017, we collected donations for those affected by Hurricane Harvey. The community named our mission “Operation: Slate Belt Loves Texas” as we are located in the Slate Belt area of Northeastern Pennsylvania showing our support for Texas. We were simply one community coming together to help another community in need over 1,000 miles away. This would be the start of our many “operations” each having a specific name.
Operation: Slate Belt Loves Florida
In September 2017, while driving home from Texas after delivering donations to hurricane victims, the community wanted to start a collection to help those affected by Hurricane Irma. With the support of the community, we collected donations that filled a 26-foot Penske truck to areas in need in Florida.
Operation: Support Our Troops
We love our Veterans! The community got involved by visiting local Veterans and surprising them with handmade cards, delicious homemade goodies and of course, an American flag! To show our support for our brave soldiers overseas, the community had a chance to “adopt” a soldier by sending a complete package of goodies, including handmade cards from local children. It was the wish of Shawn Kelton, an Iraq war veteran, and his family to send care packages to those who are currently serving our country overseas. With the help of the Kelton family, we mailed over 40 packages to our troops.
Operation: Dash for the Trash
On a wet, cold day in May, the community came together to clean up litter throughout our town.
First Responders Appreciation Dinner
In November 2017, we co-hosted a First Responders Appreciation Dinner with The Broadway Pub to thank our local law enforcement, fire and EMS.
Mission of Love Food Bank Holiday Dinner
We were asked to co-host a Holiday Dinner with the Mission of Love Food Bank. This dinner was free to all members of the community. Close to 400 meals were served that day.
