Operation: Slate Belt Love was planned as a one-time road trip after Hurricane Harvey devastated areas of Texas in 2017. A group of friends had an idea to collect donations with support from the community and deliver them to those impacted by the hurricane. The plan of loading one vehicle with donations quickly changed into a tractor trailer full and a 26-foot Penske truck as a result of the overwhelming support from the Slate Belt area of Pennsylvania and beyond. During the team's drive home from Texas, the community already began to ask if there would be a collection started for soon-to-be hit Florida from Hurricane Irma. Without hesitation, a second collection took place and the team headed to Florida. Upon returning home, the team decided to keep the momentum in the community going with local events and ways to give back.
